Employer Standards for Careers Education

The Careers and Enterprise Company has recently launched their Employer Standards for Careers Education which have been designed to help employers review the quality of their engagement and outreach activities with young people. The framework is made up of the following three main categories with nine standards in total.

  • Inspire 'young people for their best next step
  • Prepare young people to be career ready
  • Collaborate for success

Careerpilot's Sponsor a Job Sector Programme has been mapped against these standards to show how it can support employers to deliver effective careers engagement and complete the review:

Inspire young people for their best next step

  • Provide meaningful opportunities - each employer has its own company profile page where they can showcase all the opportunities available for young people with their company. Careerpilot can provide advice about how to communicate this information that will motivate and inspire young people.
  • Be inclusive - employers can feature case studies and video stories on Careerpilot that challenge stereotypes and incude young people from diverse backgrounds and under-represented groups. Careerpilot works collaboratively with schools, universities and other organisations to ensure students from deprived neighbourhoods and those with special educational needs can access information about the full range of progression pathways available.

Prepare young people to be career ready

  • Prepare young people for application processes -the company profile page has a section to provide advice and support for young people when making an application including outlining the process, recruitment criteria and describing what skills, personal qualities and experience are required.
  • Raise awareness of pathways into work - the company profile page contains detailed information about routes into careers at key transition points. There is also a section for employers to raise the awareness of their industry and opportunities linked to the labour market.

Collaborate for success

  • Partner with others - through partnering with Careerpilot, employers have the opportunity to understand how best to communicate their offer for young people. The Careerpilot team are all fully qualified careers advisers who work closely with over 600 schools, colleges and special schools to support them in delivering good quality careers programmes which meet the Gatsby Benchmarks.
  • Value the engagement - Careerpilot works collaboratively with employers to engage with more young people and support them with implementing their early career strategies.
