On-site

What's this about?

Work that happens on a building site is known as ‘on site’.

Big sites have offices on site and many people work here as well as outside. The construction manager, quantity surveyors and planners are likely to be ‘on site’ most of the time.

During the building project different trades will come on site at different times to do their jobs.

For instance at the beginning of a house building contract you will have ground workers digging foundations, mixing concrete and putting up the timber frames.

Towards the end of the build you will need carpenters to hang doors and plasterers, painters and decorators to finish it off.

Most people have heard of carpentry and bricklaying but there are hundreds of other skilled construction trades you can do.

Some of them are specialist roles such as demolition and may give you the chance to travel the world and earn more money!
