Fish friers work in fish and chip shops and seafood restaurants. They prepare and cook food, and serve customers.

37 to 39 variable

You could work: evenings / weekends / bank holidays; on split shifts

Day to day tasks

Your day-to-day tasks may include:

  • taking stock deliveries from suppliers
  • preparing and cooking food
  • serving customers and making up orders
  • taking payments
  • changing oil in the fryers
  • keeping eating and work areas clean and tidy
  • ordering stock from wholesalers

Working environment

You could work at a restaurant or in a food outlet.

Your working environment may be hot.

You can get into this job through an intermediate apprenticeship in catering.

Entry requirements

You'll usually need:

  • some GCSEs, usually including English and maths, or equivalent, for an intermediate apprenticeship
